Template:Enemy Infobox Poltergeists (鎌鼬, kamaitachi, lit. "sickle weasel") are rare enemies in Ōkami. They are superficially similar to Wheels and Doom Mirrors, but each Poltergeist wheel is made up of three sickle-wielding weasels that attack with wind, fire, lightning, and ice. Due to this mix of elements, it is difficult to fight them and thus very few are encountered. Only one battle with Poltergeists is compulsory in the game.

Background

Poltergeists are first encountered in a compulsory battle on Catcall Tower and possess the Floral Finisher of Galestorm.

They are based on the Japanese mythical creatures, Kamaitachi. Kamaitachi are said to be a trio of sickle wielding weasels with razor sharp claws who cut the skin of people's legs while riding on a gust of wind. It is said that the first weasel knocks the victim down, the second cuts the victim's flesh and the third applies medication to the victim so that they are left with painful but non-bleeding wounds.

Bestiary Entry

A group of three sickle-wielding weasels that attack in a circle, these demons are known to cause hallucinations among their victims.

If you notice a sudden and unexplained burning or freezing sensation, you are the victim of a poltergeist.

The trio possess fire, ice, or thunder powers, so each must be defeated in turn.

Strategy

Like Wheels and Mirrors, Poltergeists spin quickly around the arena. Counter their elements and attack them, but do not use Cherry Bombs on them. Doing so will separate the three weasels, after which they will perform a wicked wind-element combo that deals massive damage. Also, be careful about your use of Power Slash, as it will cause them to switch to a different element than what they have been using (They cycle between the elements). However, used correctly, you can choose which element you want them to use, based on how you want to fight them. (For example, you could force them into Wind form, and then just ready a Sub-Reflector and get an easy counter-attack to kill them quickly and safely.)
