Story

Ōkami

When Amaterasu and Issun first meet him he is working on an invention he calls the Lightning Maker. However he is missing one part, the Gimmick Gear and he requests Amaterasu's help in locating it. Amaterasu can win it after beating Ida in a race three times. When she brings it back to Gen she needs to draw a lightning bolt shape on the invention as some copper wire is missing. This summons Gekigami who teaches Amaterasu Thunderbolt.

Ōkamiden

Gen2

Gen as he appears in Ōkamiden.

Gen makes a reappearance in Ōkamiden and plays a much larger role than before. In the nine months between appearances he still loves to mess around with machines and whenever he sees something he has never seen before, he loves nothing more than to make one of his own. He is also shown to have helped his home city of Sei'an City to recover from the past attacks by demons with his numerous inventions that greatly improved the lives of the citizens. It seems he had even managed to create self-automated digging machines that helped unearth the previously unkown Underground Ruins.

Template:SpoilerDuring Ōkamiden he travels to the newly unearthed ruins on a scientific expedition to study the advanced technologies left behind from the Moon Tribe. His intelligence and curiosity of machinery is the cause of a near-catastrophe when he is held captive by King Fury in order to repair Daidarabatchi. Wishing to at least know what will happen for all his forced labor and not realizing the severity of the action; he attempts to pull the switch that activates the weapon. He is stopped just in time by Kurow but this proves to be a futile effort as King Fury himself arrives and activates it.

Shortly after King Fury's defeat he once again meets Kurow and Chibiterasu who had heard he had a means of following the demon Akuro into the past. It is revealed he had gleaned enough knowledge from the ruins before their destruction to put together a machine that would allow the user to travel through time though he admits he built it simply to do so without realizing what it could do. They sucessfully use it to travel into the past thanks to the inventor's knack for building any machine. Shortly afterwards he builds a Moon Tribe UFO-like spacecraft for Issun so that he can travel anywhere he wants, even to the Celestial Plain once again showing Gen's ingenious ability for creating any contraption no matter how advanced. After the events of Okamiden it is highly likely he continues his hobbies of building and experimenting with new technologies and machines in the city of Sei'an.Template:Spoiler End

Trivia

  • Gen is based on Hiraga Gennai, a Japanese inventor who lived in the 1800's. He is famous for his Elekiter which is an electrostatic generator. Gen's relation with electricity in Ōkami refrences this.
