The Cave of Nagi (「イザナギ窟」?; Izanagi-kutsu) is a sacred location in Ōkami and Ōkamiden. It is a memorial to the great warrior Nagi, who defeated the demon True Orochi a century past. The Cave of Nagi and its surrounding area gives off the air of a silent, yet sacred and pure sanctuary in the heavens, untouched and untainted by human life.

Description

The Cave of Nagi is actually not just a cavernous area; it also includes the entire forest path before it. Starting at the torii at the end of the River of the Heavens acting as a portal from the river, on the other side of the gate is a forest, with rocks and lines of trees large and small on the sides of a mildly ascending cobblestone path leading deep into the forest. Standing on the sides of the path are mountainous cliffs, several alcoves separate from the main path are formed into these cliffsides. At one point, the path crosses a stream, which is called the Nagi stream in the name of the hero, flowing down from a nearby mountain, and after intersecting with the aforementioned path, the streams flows down to the mortal plain below. Crossing over the stream is a wooden bridge, painted crimson, with the cobblestone path continuing until reaching a hill between two cliffs, which is where the path is replaced by a flight of stone staircase. Growing in two patches of earth between the sides of the staircase and the adjacent cliffs are many trees, big and small. Atop of the staircase is a small mountain, which has been hollowed out from natural formation into a large cavern. Underneath the main level of the cave where the entrance is is a significantly lower separate area, with a small pond between a section of the cave floor and the rocky wall of the upper section. On this lower cave floor stands a large statue of Nagi, his sword pointed skyward. However, maintenance for the memorial site in the cave was neglected, and the statue was covered in moss, and a large portion of the sword was broken. Also, at the base of the statue of Nagi is a portal leading back to the sacred deck of Kamiki Village.

In Ōkamiden, the layout for the Cave of Nagi is entirely different. The forest path before the cave is not accessed, but a portal at the differently-formed River of the Heavens leads directly to the entrance of the cave.

Demo

The Ōkamiden demo released takes place at the Cave of Nagi, but is very different, with the notable differences listed here:

  • The design is completely different.
  • Bone Clams are fought here, however, they are never encountered here in the final release.
